Scoring can be very complicated, involving many different types of hands and rules for point allocation. In addition, there are a multiple number of scoring systems. The following most commonly applied rules are based loosely on this page.
Note: Gambling is prohibited, but of course we can trade things for the tokens if specified beforehand.
[ fang pao ]
When you throw out the tile that causes someone else to win, you have fang4 pao4 and must pay that person:
- base points (2)
- dealer points
- zhuang1 jia1: if winner is the dealer (1); if you are dealer (1)
- lian2 zhuang1: if winner is dealer and has won for the second time (2); if you have already won twice in a row (2)
- dragon points
- if winner has a triple (or ending pair) of hong zhong, fa cai, or bai pi (1)
- if winner has two dragon triples, plus a pair of dragons (5)
- if winner has three dragon triples (10)
- wind points
- if winner has one of the wind suits that corresponds to the prevailing wind of the round (1)
- if winner has three winds triples, plus a pair of winds (5)
- if winner has four wind triples (10)
- flower points
- if winner has the number of the flower that corresponds to his/her position, i.e. if wall opens on your side then you are 1, the person sitting to your right is 2, and so on in a counterclockwise order (1)
- if winner has all four flower tiles (2)
- if winner has all four season tiles (2)
- dan1 deng3: if winner was only waiting for 1 tile to win, i.e. 5 in between 4 and 6 (1)
- gang4: if winner has four of the same tile, applies for an gang as well (1)
- peng4 peng4 hu2: if winner forms hand with all triples, no runs of three (5)
- men2 qing1: if winner forms a hand without using anyone else's tiles, i.e. has nothing on the table (5)
- qing1 yi2 se4: if winner forms hand completely from one suit, including pair (10)
[ zi mou ]
When you pick up the tile that you need to win from the wall yourself, you have zi4 mou1 and EVERYONE must pay you according to the rules laid out above, as well as 1 extra zi mou point.

If you and another person are waiting for the exact same tile to win, then the winner is the person closest to the one who threw out the tile, in counterclockwise order.
